Industry-like experience emphasizing technical, project management and personal development. Students working in teams will complete a sizeable hardware or hardware related software project. Proposal process, design concept. detailed design, implementation, and test. Important “real-life” skills such as teamwork, project management, communication, ethics, and engineering professionalism.

Why take this course?

This ECE capstone course is designed to offer a culminating design experience with an emphasis on technical, project management and professional development. Industry feedback has indicated a need for students with a sound technical foundation as well as personal development and proposal management skills. These skills are best learned by practice, and this two-semester capstone will optimize this learning and make our graduating students uniquely qualified to jump-start their industrial careers or to pursue an advanced degree. Must be taken in a two-semester consecutive sequence.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and explain the proposal contract process for engineering project acquisition
  • Design a solution to a sizeable hardware, or hardware based software problem
  • Implement the design solution and verify the performance against the design constraints
  • Develop schedules, budgets, project control methods and documents
  • Organize and write design documents and project reports
  • Organize and make technical presentations that describe a design
  • Work effectively in a team environment on a real-world project, interacting with external stakeholders
  • Assess and apply an ethical approach to the design process
